My journey in education began when I was invited to join the Jazz Faculty as Vocal Coach at the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa in 1989. I devised a new vocal syllabus for the Jazz Department before relocating to London in 1993.
Several students who studied under my guidance went on to become successful music professionals, some being platinum selling artists in South Africa and winning awards.
‘Pianist/singer Estelle Kokot is a unique unifying force between the UK and the South African scenes- she performs gigs in both countries each year’ Sebastian Scotney, London Jazz News
As well as being a consultant producer developing songwriters, I have extensive experience in course work projects at schools, universities and colleges, ranging from composition to vocal coaching.
I teach piano and singing privately in between my work as a professional musician and also consult for and collaborate with up and coming or established songwriters. This could involve co-writing, working on vocal and performance techniques, as well as arrangements, chord structures, lyrics and more.
“Standards and originals perfectly compatible side by side, Kokot is an excellent arranger of her own and other peoples’ material” John Fordham, The Guardian, London.
